Submission to Victorian Government flood inquiry

IAG welcomes the opportunity to make a submission to the Legislative Council’s Standing Committee on Environment and Planning’s inquiry into the 2022 Flood Event in Victoria.
We support this inquiry and the committee members considering the State’s preparedness for and response to Victoria’s major flooding event of October 2022. We have the following comments that focus on terms of reference 4,6,8 and 9 for the committee members’ consideration. There are many models for disaster resilience, preparedness, emergency management and community recovery that exist across government policy and academic literature, including the Victorian Preparedness Framework. Common to all these frameworks are three stages of action for disaster management.
