Amanda Whiting

Amanda was appointed CEO, IAG New Zealand in July 2021. In this role, she is responsible for New Zealand’s largest general insurer, trading under the AMI, State, NZI, NAC, Lumley and Lantern brands. The business also provides the general insurance products sold by ASB, BNZ, Westpac and The Co-operative Bank in New Zealand.

Amanda joined IAG in Sydney in 2008 and has held a number of key roles within the organisation. She was Acting Group Executive for Direct Insurance Australia prior to her current role, and before that was Executive General Manager, Consumer Distribution in IAG’s Australia Division. In this role, she was responsible for the distribution of brands including NRMA Insurance, CGU Insurance, SGIO and SGIC across multiple distribution channels.

In 2023, Amanda was named Insurance Leader of the Year at the New Zealand Insurance Awards hosted by the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) for her track record of fostering innovative and diverse workplaces that deliver exceptional culture and customer-centred outcomes. She received particular recognition for her work in the aftermath of the North Island floods and Cyclone Gabrielle, including for her tireless contribution to the industry, through several internal and external boards and committees, and her work to spearhead the recent disaster response, recovery, and next steps alongside central and local government.

Amanda has more than 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry in both general and health insurance, and has held senior roles in these industries as well as telecommunications; she worked at iiNet before joining IAG.

In her time at IAG, Amanda has been involved in leading award-winning insurance experience teams, generating record employee net promoter scores, and has instigated a significant business transformation program to build foundations for future growth at IAG New Zealand.

Amanda is an Executive Director of IAG New Zealand Limited and IAG (NZ) Holdings Limited, as well as holding directorships with AMI Insurance Limited, First Rescue New Zealand Limited, IAG NZ Repairhub Limited, Loyalty New Zealand Limited and Lumley General Insurance (NZ) Limited.

Amanda is a member of the Climate Leaders Coalition Steering Committee and Sustainable Business Council Advisory Board, as well as President of the Insurance Council of New Zealand Board. She is a member of Global Women and Champions for Change in New Zealand, and Chief Executive Women in Australia.
