Applications for IAG's 2024 Graduate Program close on 5 March 2023

IAG Graduate Program

At IAG we offer a Graduate Program for recent university graduates wanting to kickstart their career in Australia and New Zealand’s largest general insurance company.

Starting in February 2024, graduates will experience three rotations during an 18-month program where they work on addressing complex issues across different business areas at IAG to help them find a role they’re passionate about.

Make your world safer, bigger, and bolder

Our purpose is what drives us as a company and whether you are a customer, partner, employee, shareholder, or part of the community, we exist to make your world a safer place.

Collin Zhang is a current Group Technology Graduate and part of IAG’s 2022 program intake. Collin said IAG’s purpose was one of the reasons that led him to apply for the Graduate Program.

What attracted me to IAG is their excellence in supporting inclusion and diversity in the workplace as well as their commitment to building a safer world for everyone.

“IAG's rotational 18-month Graduate Program also gave us the opportunity to experience different parts of the industry and equipped us with more well-rounded skills,” Collin said.

Supporting Our Graduates

Our dedication to develop and give new opportunities to our graduates is one of the reasons why 93% of graduates from our recent intake intend to stay at IAG when their program ends. It’s also why we are listed on GradAustralia’s Top 100 Graduate Employers 2022 and a finalist in GradConnection’s 2022 Top 100 Most Popular Graduate Employers.

All new graduates will receive a structured induction where they will meet their team and fellow graduates in the program, hear about the organisation, and learn how they will be supported through IAG’s ongoing mentor and buddy support system.

Johanna Kennedy received a double degree in Commerce (Finance) and Information Systems from the University of New South Wales, and in 2022, began as a graduate in our Data, Risk and Resilience Division.

In our first week we had a full orientation to learn about IAG’s culture and the different teams in the business. The leaders explained all the different ways to get involved with company activities and learning opportunities.

Collin Zhang described the induction week as a good opportunity to meet and get to know other graduates in the program.

“During the first week, we had an induction which was a lot of fun in helping graduates ease in and become acquainted with IAG. Getting together with the other graduates, we had workshops that gave us an overview of IAG as a company and what we should expect as graduates,” Collin said.

“The best thing about the grad program is the connections you build throughout your rotations, which will become your own professional network.”

All graduates are given professional development support and educational workshops through the IAG Academy, Udemy, and LinkedIn Learning, which is important in the transition to a full-time career.

IAG supports flexible working and our Graduate Program offers all the same benefits as other permanent employees, including:

  • Competitive base salary + performance-based bonus + 13% superannuation
  • Up to 50% discount on insurance products
  • A huge number of discounts from our corporate partners
  • Flexible work and leave options

Developing Your Career

IAG has created a Graduate Program full of opportunities in a warm and welcoming environment. While many great moments have been about making friendships and developing important networks, getting the essential hands-on experience is the highlight for our grads.

IAG is supportive in promoting its graduates to take ownership of their careers and to maximise the opportunities to work on dynamic and challenging projects for our brands, including: NRMA Insurance, CGU, WFI, ROLLiN’, NZI, State, and AMI.

For Johanna, no day is the same as her role varies from technical to non-technical projects that expand her learning experience in the Data Graduate pathway. “Some days it involves attending meetings and discussions, others may involve researching or querying for a solution,” Johanna said.

Collin is currently working in the Technology and Operations Application Programming Integration (API) team, and says his role in meeting with stakeholders and developers is giving him an opportunity to facilitate meetings on IAG’s API products and integration technologies.

“A typical meeting usually consists of gathering requirements needed for a solution or running a kick-off session with a business analyst, developer, and a tester where I facilitate a discussion with the technicalities of the solution. Doing this before the development of the solution means that we can iron out any ambiguities or concerns,” he said.

There isn’t a day that I don’t feel supported at IAG. Everyone here is always friendly and willing to lend a hand.

Our program also encourages graduates to give back to local communities through workplace giving and volunteer leave. Collin and Johanna both said their favourite moment as a grad was IAG’s inaugural Resilience Day event.

“Resilience Day is an opportunity for IAG’s people to act as a team and help the community, whether it be bush regeneration, recovery initiatives, HELP Challenges or personal resilience,” Collin said.

Johanna said this was an opportunity to see IAG’s contribution to the community: “I really enjoyed Resilience Day as it was an eye-opening and hands-on experience that showed me another side of what IAG does for our customers,” she said.

Are you ready?

IAG’s Graduate Program includes four stages in the recruitment process for aspiring applicants:

  1. Application (includes CV and Academic Transcript)
  2. Online Capability Assessment
  3. Video Interview
  4. Engagement Day

Collin and Johanna advise future applicants that the recipe for success is to do your research and come prepared.

“Research! While researching about the role and how you align with it is important, what can strengthen your application over others is understanding IAG’s values and how that resonates with you, as well as reading up on the news headlines about IAG,” explained Collin.

Johanna added that the engagement day is a useful opportunity to get a glimpse into the work environment and to highlight your skills as an applicant to the IAG recruitment team.

“The engagement day includes multiple activities for applicants, including a presentation to the recruitment team and some internal IAG staff,” Johanna said.

Applications for our 2024 intake are now open and close 5 March 2023.
