FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TO THE MARKET
Insurance Group Limited, the ultimate holding company for NRMA Insurance, SGIO, SGIC and State Insurance, was today renamed Insurance Australia Group Limited (IAG).
The change relates only to the name of the publicly listed company and will not affect the retail brands or the way customers interact with the Group or their policies.
The change will affect the Group's 1.25 million shareholders when the ASX stock code changes from 'NRM' to 'IAG' on or about Friday, 18 January.
The new code will have to be quoted to buy and sell shares or check the share price. Until the code changes, shareholders will be able to trade using the old code 'NRM'.
IAG Chief Executive Officer, Mr Michael Hawker, said the change reflected the size of the Group's operations, diversity and Australian heritage.
Mr Hawker stressed IAG's retail brands would remain the public face of the company.
"The main impact of the name change is on activities that relate to shareholders, such as the stock symbol on the ASX and the use of the new logo on corporate announcements and publications," Mr Hawker said.
"Given we have the second largest share registry in Australia, it's important our shareholders are aware of the change.
"However, there is no change for our customers - they will continue to deal with our retail organisations.
"While NRMA Insurance is an extremely strong brand in NSW, the ACT and Queensland, our other brands are SGIC in South Australia, SGIO in Western Australia and State Insurance and Circle in New Zealand.
"The Insurance Australia Group Limited name better represents our strength as a group of insurers.
"We will continue to invest heavily in our retail brands, all of which are leaders in their respective markets with thousands of loyal customers."
Mr Hawker said the holding company name change would also help distinguish IAG from the road services group, NRMA Member Services.
"While it is important to stress that NRMA Insurance Limited and NRMA Member Services are separate and distinct organisations, they will continue to work closely together on product distribution and other shared services."
