NRMA Insurance and RACV today announced a new partnership with GIVIT, a national not-for-profit donation platform that matches the needs of people experiencing hardship with donors from across the country. The partnership will enable GIVIT to continue to allocate 100 per cent of public donations made to their platform directly to communities in need quickly and efficiently.
GIVIT works with more than 4,700 support organisations around Australia including councils, charities and community groups to identify exactly what’s needed by people experiencing hardship. GIVIT facilitates up to 75,000 donations per month and since 2020 has helped people affected by more than 25 extreme weather events.
As GIVIT’s National Disaster and Emergency Partners, NRMA Insurance and RACV will work together with GIVIT to create safer, stronger and more connected communities in and out of disasters. In addition to supporting GIVIT’s daily operations, the partnership will see the organisations collaborate during disaster response and recovery efforts to help communities impacted by extreme weather.
NRMA Insurance CEO Julie Batch said: “We have supported GIVIT since 2011 and are proud to continue this important partnership. As our country faces the increased frequency and severity of extreme weather events, the role GIVIT plays in providing a transparent, coordinated and effective solution to connecting generous donors with people in need is vital in supporting communities in their recovery.”
RACV Executive General Manager Membership Mark Geraghty said: “NRMA Insurance and RACV’s partnership with GIVIT will enable a technology uplift in GIVIT’s operations, achieving significant efficiencies in processing and distributing donations.”
The uplift will see GIVIT introduce purchasing automation, which will streamline the process of buying items locally to support local business and support economic recovery of disaster-affected communities.
Our partnership with NRMA Insurance and RACV is an important part of the evolution of GIVIT as we make capability improvements to meet the increased demand for donations across the country.Chris Staines
GIVIT CEO
Mr Staines continued: "Last financial year alone, we facilitated the donation of 544,400 items and services to people in need and received $3.6 million in donated funds.
“Australia is a charitable nation, particularly following extreme weather events where we see donation offers increase significantly. These events demonstrate how important it is to harness the generosity of Australians to ensure people experiencing hardship get exactly what they need, when they need it.
“We can also help by sourcing goods and services locally which supports the economic recovery of disaster impacted regions.”
The new partnership follows the success of the jointly funded NRMA Insurance and RACV COVID-19 Disaster Relief Program which enabled GIVIT to donate more than one million items and services to pandemic-impacted people and communities across Australia.
