IAG welcomes NSW Government investment in disaster resilience

IAG today welcomed the NSW Government’s 2024-25 Budget continued commitment to supporting communities impacted by severe weather and natural disasters, and helping them to become more resilient.

The Government’s $5.7 billion package over four years, including co-contributions from the Federal Government, includes:

  • $3.3 billion for restoration works to roads damaged in major flood events;
  • $632.4 million to continue delivering new and safe housing across the Northern Rivers and Central West, including $525 million to support voluntary buybacks, home raisings, repairs and retrofits through the Resilient Homes Program; and
  • $303.5 million to repair, rebuild and improve the resilience of critical infrastructure.

IAG Managing Director and CEO Nick Hawkins said: “The NSW Government’s significant funding announced today will continue to help communities recover from multiple years of devastating floods and help them to become more resilient.

“Investing in resilience measures such as voluntary home buybacks and planned relocation, house raising, and retrofits will help improve the safety of people living in areas at high-risk of severe weather, and ensure they’re better protected into the future.”

IAG advocates for ongoing investment in disaster mitigation initiatives, improved land use planning and the strengthening of building codes to help ensure people and communities are better protected from the impacts of severe weather and natural disasters.
